The Working Group on the Mining Code holds a public hearing on Tuesday (22) with representatives of government agencies. The group was created by the Chamber of Deputies to prepare a proposal to update the code.

"We believe it is essential to promote a broad debate with the largest number of institutions linked to the mineral sector, especially the public sector, with the aim of obtaining the necessary subsidies for proposing a new regulatory framework", said the group's rapporteur, deputy Joaquim Passarinho ( PL-PA), when proposing the hearing.

"The debate with public bodies makes it possible to rescue the institutional memory of the sector, in addition to making room for the presentation of the main current problems from the point of view of those responsible for planning, regulating and regulating mining, for granting mining titles, for inspection of infractions, geological research, environmental processes, among other essential procedures for the attribution of mining rights", said Joaquim Passarinho.

Representatives from the Ministry of Mines and Energy , the Ministry of the Environment , the National Mining Agency (ANM), the Geological Survey of Brazil (CPRM), the Brazilian Institute for the Environment and Renewable Natural Resources (Ibama) were invited to the debate. ) and the Chico Mendes Institute for Biodiversity Conservation (ICMBio).

The hearing is scheduled for 15:00, in plenary 13.
