Andean electrical interconnection system (SINEA)

Description: The project arises from the desire to achieve a regional connection between the countries which comprise the Andean Community, namely: Colombia, Ecuador, Peru and Bolivia, as well as Chile as a partner. The project seeks to create a shared framework which will enable the creation of an energy market between previously listed countries. Among the proposed objectives includes securing the energy supply of electrical networks in the involved countries, as well as diversifying energy sources, promoting the use of renewable energy for the generation of electricity. The project seeks to implement mechanisms which will facilitate legal approval and will guarantee the progress of the infraestructre and international electricity transactions. It will also develop bilateral trade mechanisms exclusively for this type of exchange. The ultimate goal outlined by the countries involved in the project is to strengthen supply between the countries, achieving mutual security against contingencies. In the first stage Bolivia will participate as an observer.
