The term Calabozo refers to a broad sector of geothermal interest located in the Andes Mountains, some 250 km south of Santiago and 100 km east of the city of Talca. The area extends along the border with Argentina, at elevations of 1,800-2,500 m asl, in a remote sector of the high mountain range, far removed from the existing road infrastructure. The geothermal zone extends over a section of approximately 25 km in a wide valley between the active volcanic complex of Peteroa-Azufre, to the north, and the Cerro del Medio Volcano, to the south, and that corresponds to the edge of a wide volcano structure. -tectonics known in literature as Caldera de Calabozo. In this area there are several thermal manifestations, which include boiling chlorinated waters, grouped from north to south in the following main areas: eastern flank of the Peteroa Volcano (fumaroles), Llolli (fumaroles and springs with temperatures up to 98˚C), Pellejo (fumaroles and springs with temperatures up to 80˚C), Poterillos and Calabozo (springs with temperatures up to 80˚C).
