Description

The San Pedro de Atacama III PV project calls for the construction and operation of a 30MW photovoltaic power plant near the city of Calama in northern Chile's Antofagasta region (II). Developed by Rijn Capital Chile, the local unit of Dutch investment firm Rijn Capital BV, San Pedro III is part of the Jama Solar project, an initiative that seeks to develop a 150MW solar complex comprising six independent PV farms. San Pedro III is the first development in Jama Solar and, when completed, will feature 144,000 monocrystalline PV modules mounted over 3,000 double-axis solar trackers spread over an area of 200ha. The energy generated will be injected into the country's northern SING grid through a 23/110/220kV substation (S/E San Pedro III) and a 32km-220kV transmission line that will interconnect the plant to the Calama substation. At a cost of US$105mn, the project – as well as a future 22MW expansion dubbed San Pedro VI – are being fully financed by Chilean lender CorpBanca. Operations at San Pedro III were expected to begin in April 2015, while construction of San Pedro VI is set to kick off in May 2015.
