Description

The Franke open pit operation uses crushing, agglomeration, leaching and SX-EW processes to produce copper cathodes that would be transported by rail to Puerto Barquito in Chañaral for shipping. The operation is anticipated to produce 30,000t/y copper cathodes -- and a total of 260,000t copper cathodes over 8-9 years. The project required 500 workers during peak construction phase and has generated 400 jobs during the ensuing operational phase. It is run by Vancouver-based Quadra FNX Mining.
