Description: The TransUrbano project aims to develop a modern, safe and efficient system of mass transit that will use state-of-the-art technology to improve safety and provide electronic bus fare collection. The first phase of the project started running the buses along Petapa avenue, providing services to approximately 200,000 people. By year-end 2010, 3,150 new buses circulated in the capital city, providing services to 1.2mn inhabitants. The mass transport system began operating in Janaury 2010 and is run by Guatemala's communications, infrastructure and housing ministry (CIV).
