Chilean power generator Colbún S.A., controlled by Grupo Matte, operates 23 plants on Chile's Central Interconnected System and one in Peru, amounting to a total installed capacity of 3,852MW. The company's portfolio comprises 16 hydroelectric power plants and eight thermal power stations (one located in Peru, owned by its subsidiary Fenix Power) already in operation, two future hydroelectric stations (La Mina and San Pedro) with 600MW estimated potential, three planned solar photovoltaic projects and one wind farm project, acquired through an agreement with Sunedison. Colbún also owns 28 substations and 916km of transmission lines, and participates in several joint ventures. Out of the total power generated by the company in 2016 in Chile, 43% came from renewable sources. The firm was incorporated in 1986 and is headquartered in Santiago.
