Celec awards Minas hydro contract

Ecuador's state power generation holding company Celec has awarded Consorcio Hidrojubones a contract to supervise the detailed engineering, civil works construction, and equipment supply, installation and testing of the 275MW Minas San Francisco hydro, BNamericas has learned.

Consorcio Hidrojubones (Gas Natural Fenosa, Caminosca, Integral Ingenieros Consultores and Astec) was the only group of three to qualify for the 50-month, US$29mn contract.

Celec and Harbin Electric International signed the contract to build Minas in December 2011 with operations penciled in to begin end-2015.

The US$500mn project, planned for provinces Azuay and El Oro, will connect to the national grid via a 45km line. Components also include a 78m-high dam and three Pelton-type turbines.
