Paraguayan energy authorities expect that plans to launch tenders to build a power transmission line from the Yacyretá hydroelectric dam will take another step forward.

In an update, state electricity company Ande said it was waiting on the European Investment Bank to approve bidding rules for the 500kV Yacyretá-Ayolas-Villa Hayes project.

The lender, together with Latin American development bank CAF and IDB, is helping to finance the US$262mn project, due online in 2017.

The planned calls are for two sections, one of which will run 160km and another 170km. Tenders have been launched for the substations.

Yacyretá-Ayolas-Villa Hayes will run alongside an existing 220kV line.

The line will run from the Yacyretá hydropower plant (CH Yacyreta) to the outskirts of capital Asuncíon (SE VHA) (CREDIT: Ande).
