Work to expand the La Pigua-Reclusorio highway in Mexico's Tabasco state will wrap up in the first few months of 2012.
National transport and communications ministry SCT is financing the project, which will cost a total 600mn pesos (US$42.9mn), paper Milenio reported.
Some 200mn pesos will be spent on the project's first phase, which entails widening the highway to eight lanes, allowing vehicles to travel at up to 90km/h.
Phase II involves construction of the four-lane La Pigua III bridge over the Carrizal river to improve access to state capital Villahermosa.
