Ahmsa invests in environmental technology

Mexican steelmaker Ahmsa announced a new investment in environmental technology at its casting plant in Coahuila state.

The company secured US$25mn in financing to pay for a control system which will capture 97% of dust produced during secondary processing.

The seven-year financing was signed by Ahmsa subsidiary Minera del Norte (Minosa) with the North American Development Bank and Mexico's mining promotion fund (Fifomi).

A Mexican court lifted a long-standing suspension of payments procedure last month after Ahmsa creditors approved a repayment program.
