Chilean natural gas distributors GasValpo and NovaGas will open a compressed natural gas (CNG) service station in Chile's Region V city Vina del Mar within two weeks, deputy general manager Carlos Maureira said, El Mercurio de Valparaiso reported.
The companies plan to open a second station in neighboring Valparaiso within six months, and will target the 3,000 taxis in the area as their initial market.
In its gas distribution activities, GasValpo plans to invest US$20mn over the next three years to reach 60,000 clients by 2004. Presently it has 30,000 clients in the industrial and residential sectors since upgrading the existing gas distribution networks in Valparaiso and Vina del Mar and extending the network to include neighboring towns of Quilpue, Villa Alemana, Jardin del Mar, Renaca, Concon and Ventanas.
GasValpo has invested US$80mn in the last four years and its distribution network now measures 600km, operations manager Luis Kipreos said.
