Mexico's LPG registry launches in January

Mexico's energy regulator CRE said that its statistical registry of commercial LPG operations, Siretrac GL, will start operations on January 14. Permitted companies will have to log data regarding volumes of sales prices and movements of the product in the system. The measure is part of an initiative to impede the sale of stolen LPG.

In related news, the commission published a list of 66 companies with expired permits for the distribution of LPG. Permits expired because companies did not start operations in the first place or stopped providing the service.

LPG is widely used for heating water and cooking in Mexico and comprised 33% of residential, commercial and public energy use in 2016. The sector has been severely impacted by fuel theft.
