Peru flags Pluspetrol drill project

Pluspetrol Norte has until March 25 to respond to observations on its EIS for a project to increase production and guarantee reserve recovery at Peru block 8, according to a resolution from the energy and mines ministry's energy environmental affairs office DGAAE.

The more than 70 observations relate to the project description, environmental impact characterization and environmental management strategy, among other areas.

The acreage appears as "active" in ombudsman Defensoría del Perú's latest social conflicts report.

The US$169mn five-year work program envisions spudding eight development wells, along with water reinjection wells and well workovers, and the expansion of production and auxiliary facilities.

Block 8 was the country's third largest crude and condensate producer in January with 5,753b/d, after blocks X (11,187b/d) and Z-2B (7,994b/d), according to information from hydrocarbons licensing authority Perupetro. Total crude and condensate output in the month was 39,059b/d.

In Peru, Pluspetrol also holds licenses for Camisea blocks 56 and 88, and exploration block 108.
