Peru flags Tecpetrol exploration project

Tecpetrol has until mid-September to respond to observations to an EIS for an exploration campaign in Peru's Ucayali region.

Information from the energy and mines ministry's energy environmental affairs department reveals that 105 observations for planned work on block 174 include the need to provide a flora and fauna map and clarify water use, waste management and abandonment plans.

As part of the community relations plan, the company also must include a citizen monitoring and oversight program, and detailed local development support.

The US$72mn, 38-month project envisions four exploration wells from two platforms.

The contract for block 174, which covers 263,944ha, is one of three exploration contracts in the southern Amazon. The other areas are block 76 held by Hunt Oil and Pluspetrol's block 108.
