Ecuador's congress approved on Thursday e-commerce legislation to regulate commercial Internet transactions, which now awaits presidential approval, local press reported.
The legislation will give legal validity to all contracts made online, sanction illegal acts committed over the Internet, and place a strong emphasis on information privacy.
In Latin America, Ecuador, along with Chile, have pending e-commerce legislation awaiting executive approval. Only Argentina and Panama have enacted e-commerce laws.
