The director of Panama's national water utility Idaan, Manuel González, has stepped down due to health reasons.
González will remain in the post until President Ricardo Martinelli has selected a replacement, according to a government release.
Idaan struggled to deal with a potable water shortage that affected Panama City in December and most of January, after the Chilibre potable water plant became contaminated with sediment. The suspension of service reportedly cost Idaan US$1.2mn in income in December alone.
