Panama's national water utility Idaan has kicked off modernization of the Chame potable water plant in the district of the same name in Panama province.
Administradora de Proyectos de Construcción (Aprocosa) is carrying out the work, which will cost some US$3.87mn, Idaan said in a release.
Construction involves doubling the plant's capacity to 30.7Ml/d and installing a new pipeline for the water intake on the Chame river as well as new pipeline connecting the plant to the distribution network.
The project is expected to take 540 days to complete and will benefit some 19,000 local residents.
