Chile's public works ministry (MOP) is spending some 1.98bn pesos (US$4.28mn) on a storm drainage system in southern region XIV capital Valdivia, the regional MOP office said in a release.
The project involves construction of six collectors in the central-eastern part of the city, covering a total area of 754,000m2.
The first two collectors have been completed and collectors 3 and 4 are currently under construction, according to regional MOP director Heidi Machmar, who inspected the project on Tuesday (Jul 19).
Construction of collectors 5 and 6 is expected to be completed next year, the release said.
The project aims to reduce flooding and will benefit some 25,000 people.
