Argentina's G2K plans new datacenter to meet strong demand
Local hosting company G2K plans to build a Tier II datacenter in Argentina to tap into growing demand.
“Next year there will be a boom in this type of services,” Mauro Ferraro, G2K’s corporate commercial manager, told BNamericas. “[With this data center] we're anticipating the demand that will come in the coming years.”
The project will require an investment of US$20mn in the first stages, with the company initially using its own resources and later looking for investors.
The datacenter will have an extension of 3,000m2 and initial capacity of 10MW.
“In Argentina, there are few datacenters with these characteristics and they are at their maximum capacity,” said Ferraro.
The country's volatile political situation and economic crisis have held back datacenter investments in recent years.
G2K was born as a web hosting company and later incorporated cloud services. It has a smaller datacenter in San Nicolás, Buenos Aires province, which was opened in 2013.
This datacenter provides hosting, cloud and colocation services, among others, to a "significant number of companies,” said Ferraro. Clients include medium-sized companies and public sector entities.
For the new datacenter, G2K is now looking to find an anchor client to begin construction next year.
“We already have the site where it will be built and we have the energy available. Now we just need to define some details of the final project and with that we will be in a position to offer it to customers,” Ferraro said.
“The idea is to create a modular and scalable datacenter, in such a way that it allows us to grow quickly in response to the demand of a future client."
