4th Brazil-Argentina bridge receives green light

Brazil authorized the construction of a 1.4km, 211mn-real (US$40mn) bridge across the Uruguay River, linking Porto Xavier city, in Rio Grande do Sul state, and San Javier municipality, in Argentina.
Local firm Coesa Construção e Montagens will build the bridge on highway BR-392, the infrastructure ministry said in a press release. The company will shortly obtain the environmental licenses.
Engineering and construction must be completed within three years and 11 months.
"The new connection between the two countries has been awaited for over 40 years and will be the fourth of its kind in the country," the press release said.
"In Rio Grande do Sul, the new bridge will be an alternative to the other two projects on the Uruguay River, on BR-287/RS (São Borja/Santo Tomé) and on BR-290/RS (Uruguaiana/Paso de los Libres). In Paraná, the bridge across the Iguaçu River, on BR-277/PR, connects Foz do Iguaçu (PR) to the Argentine municipality of Puerto Iguazú," it added.
