Endesa Latin America H2 output commitment reaches 70-75%
Bnamericas Published: Wednesday, July 29, 2009
An estimated 70-75% of Spanish power group Endesa's second half 2009 production in Latin America has been committed, according to CEO Andrea Brentan. Meanwhile, an estimated 60-65% of next year's regional output has been committed, Brentan said in a webcast to discuss 1H09 results. In the first six months of this year, the company's generation and distribution in Latin America rose 8.1% to 32TWh and 0.2% to 31.2TWh, respectively, general finance manager Paolo Bondi said in the presentation. Power production was driven by hydroelectric generation, with growth in Argentina (16%), Colombia (11%), Chile (6%) and Peru (2%), while Brazil experienced a 9% drop. The bulk of output came from Chile (10.4GWh), followed by Argentina (9.13GWh), Colombia (6.63GWh), Peru (4.48GWh) and Brazil (1.42GWh). Distribution rose 2% in Brazil and Peru, and fell 1% in Argentina, Chile and Colombia. The group's bottom line from Latin America in January-June 2009 rose 20% to 280mn euros (US$397mn) compared to the year-ago period. Companywide net profit in 1H09 totaled 2.26bn euros. Endesa's capex in Latin America in 1H09 totaled 462mn euros, of which 205mn euros went to T&D, 154mn euros to generation and 33mn euros to other areas. In the region, the group also has a stake in the Siepac Central American grid project.
