Generation rises 0.81% in 2003

Power generation in Venezuela rose 0.81% to 89,734GWh in 2003 from 89,013GWh in 2002, according to information from national grid operator Opsis. Thermo generation accounted for 29,343GWh (32.7%) and hydro generation 60,391Wh (67.3%) of the 89,734GWh total. The main generators in 2003 were state-owned Edelca with 58,409GWh (65.1%), the private sector's EDC with 12,160GWh (13.6%) and state-owned Cadafe with 10,163GWh (11.3%) of the total. Total consumption rose 0.19% to 89,320GWh in 2003 from 89,147GWh in 2002. Total installed capacity increased 5.48% to 20,637MW in 2003 from 19,569MW the previous year.
