Brazil's mines and energy ministry ( MME) has authorized two companies to install a combined 105MW of new generation capacity. MME cleared sugar and ethanol producer Clealco Açúcar e Álcool to increase installed capacity at its Clealco-Queiroz thermo plant in São Paulo state. Specifically, MME cleared the company to install a new 35MW generator at the 10MW sugarcane bagasse-fired plant, the ministry said in a statement. Separately, power company Usina Porto das Águas has received the green light to start developing a 70MW thermo plant in Goiás state. The company will have to implement its own transmission system linking the plant to the 138kV Chapadão substation. Construction is due to wrap up by July 2010, according to the official gazette Diário Oficial.
