MOP analyzes project to expand potable water services in region III

Bnamericas
Chilean public works ministry ( MOP) officials will analyze potable water investment in the Alto del Carmen municipality, in region III, local press reported. MOP's regional secretary Mirtha Meléndez met with Alto del Carmen's city council to discuss the works necessary to provide potable water to districts Algodón and El Sombrío, where inhabitants currently receive water by truck. Located in the Atacama valley, the municipality also lacks sanitation networks. Authorities first designed a potable water system for the area in 2001, but the cost of installing the water network was considered unfeasible by the government at the time. The new project under analysis includes a number of improvements and is part of an integrated development plan, designed to justify the investment. Meléndez was accompanied by MOP's road director Raúl Cornejo, waterworks director Sergio Catalán and planning director Nelson López.
