Actis secures Peru solar concession, wind project expansion nod

Peru’s energy and mines ministry granted Orygen Perú the definitive concession for the 94.22MW CERW Wayra Solar project in Ica region.

The ministry’s power director is authorized to sign the concession contract with Orygen, formerly known as Enel Generación Perú (EGP) and now controlled by Actis.

EGP filed the concession request in May for the plant which is envisioned for Marcona district, Nasca province.

The ministry also approved a request submitted by Empresa de Generación Eléctrica Los Pinos - now Orygen - to modify the approved semi-detailed environmental impact study for the Mórrope wind project in Lambayeque region.

The change will increase capacity to 248MW from 228MW with the addition of two turbines (reaching a total of 40) and change turbine capacity to 4.5-7MW from 4.5-6.5MW.

Power grid coordinator COES previously approved the projects’ pre-operational studies, which are used to show that a proposed plant and associated transmission infrastructure will not hinder the expansion of the national grid or impact the system’s safe and reliable operation.

Orygen was Peru’s third largest power producer in September with 748GWh or 15% of total output in the month, after Kallpa (1,041GWh) and Engie (843GWh).

The company operates the country’s largest solar park, Rubí (145MW), and this year brought online solar park Clemesí (115MW), as well as Peru’s largest wind complex comprised of Wayra I (132MW) and Wayra expansion (177MW).
