AMLO's flagship infra program reportedly moves at slow pace

More than two years after the Mexican government presented the first and second packages of the 2020-24 national infrastructure program (PNI), progress has only reached 13%, according to a press report. 

PNI consists of 68 public-private partnership projects.

Only nine of the projects have been completed, while 24 are in the construction stage. The remainder are in the planning or tender stages, and there are some that have been suspended and others that lack progress updates, local news outlet Expansión reported. 

Unveiled in October and December 2020, respectively, the first package included 39 projects and the second 29 with combined investments of 526bn pesos (US$25.7bn).

According to Expansión, the works that have been completed are the following:

There is a third infrastructure package awaiting presentation, but it is not likely to come anytime soon due to government concern regarding the progress of the two first packages.
