This is an automated translation of the original Anglo American release published in Spanish.

During the last session of the Quellaveco Monitoring Committee (CMQ) held last Friday in the city of Ilo, Anglo American reported that the committed social contribution of S/ 350 million for the Quellaveco construction stage has already been made available entirely to the Moquegua Development Fund (FDM), fulfilling one of the agreements of the Dialogue Table. Added to this is the S/ 100 million that Anglo American programmed for its operation stage but that it advanced in 2019 to carry out works to boost the regional economy, also serving to attend the health emergency due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

This contribution of S/ 450 million was delivered progressively to finance works and projects with a regional impact such as the Chilota-Chincune water system that will expand the agricultural frontier by 1,750 hectares of crops, the strengthening of the public health system which saved many lives during the pandemic, the construction of the Biological Control Center that will improve the productive conditions of 35,000 farmers, the transformation of the José Carlos Mariátegui Higher Technological Institute into the first Center of Excellence at the national level, a goal that is close to being achieved, the expansion of the Vizcachas dam that makes part of the region's water reserve available to agriculture and the population, and various training programs carried out by Anglo American that improved opportunities for local workers and companies.

In addition, after completing the technical studies, the construction of a storage system in the Asana River with a capacity of 2.5 million cubic meters of water is scheduled to be made available to the local population and agriculture. With this social contribution, more than 20 works have also been executed and programmed in the three provinces of the region, covering needs and reducing the gaps in education, health, agriculture, availability of water for human consumption, road traffic and food assistance, improving the quality of life of the population.

As recalled, at the Dialogue Table with Moquegua, held between 2011 and 2012, Anglo American undertook to make a contribution of S/ 1,000 million soles. S/ 350 million were initially allocated for the construction stage of Quellaveco, however, in 2019, in response to various concerns of the population, the company agreed with the Moquegua authorities to advance S/ 100 million, increasing at that time the availability of funds. Currently, Quellaveco is in the operating stage and in this period, Anglo American will make a contribution of S/ 550 million with which works and projects will continue to be carried out through the Moquegua Development Fund, an entity made up of the Moquegua Regional Government, provincial municipalities, representatives of civil society, the community in the area of influence and Anglo American.
