Argentina watch: Solar, ethanol, hydropower updates

Authorities in Argentina's Jujuy province expect to launch a tender in July for a 250MW solar park, governor Gerardo Morales said.

Morales (pictured right) and President Mauricio Macri signed an agreement to develop the project under Macri's Belgrano plan, a campaign pledge to invest US$16bn in new infrastructure works in the country's 10 northern provinces.

The announcement follows news that Mendoza province is planning a US$740mn, CSP-PV hybrid solar project.

Argentina will increase the minimum percentage of ethanol in the national gasoline mix to 12% from 10%, confirmed President Mauricio Macri.

Macri made the announcement during a tour of the country's northern provinces, where sugarcane producers faced "their worst crisis in 50 years" in 2015, a government statement said.

The ethanol measure will generate 50,000 direct and indirect jobs in provinces Tucumán, Salta and Jujuy, the statement said.

The government of Neuquén province signed a US$15mn financing agreement with the Abu Dhabi Fund for Development for the 4MW Nahueve hydropower project.

In June, the Neuquén government tagged the project's total investment cost at US$18mn.
