Argentina's San Juan province to start fiber connectivity program
Public telecoms company San Juan Innova SE is about to start phase 1 of Argentina’s 3bn-peso (US$19.7mn) San Juan Conectada program.
The company received 130 fiber optics coils from producer Artic, while local company Tecnored will lay the fiber optics, starting in Iglesia department. Under phase I, over 30 localities in Calingasta, Iglesia, Jáchal and Valle Fértil departments will be connected.
In 2021, Tecnored won the tender to install 500km of fiber optics in the province as part of the provincial fiber network.
The program is financed by the federal regional infrastructure fund and San Juan province and expected to benefit 45,000 citizens.
The network will be offered wholesale and is expected to foster private telecoms operators, integrate existing networks to support applications and services deployment for the modernization of the State, increase capacity, availability and reduce operating costs, according to a provincial press release.
Wi-Fi
In related developments, at the end of September San Juan awarded TA Telecomunicaciones a 40mn-peso contract to provide Wi-Fi in 28 public spaces like parks, squares and museums.
The contract includes providing equipment, physical installation, commissioning of equipment, training and software licenses.
