State-owned inter-urban rail company Fesub will start selling bidding rules Wednesday for three consultancy contracts that fall under its Biovías public transport project for southern Chile's Region VIII capital Concepción. The contracts are to provide technical and legal assistance to prepare the bidding process for putting exlusive bus lanes out to concession; to design and draft the engineering details of rail stops, intermodal transfer stations, and the management and control center; and the implementation of a user information system. Bidding is open to consultancies registered with the country's public works and/or housing ministries, with offers due August 11, 9 and 4, respectively. Last month, Fesub - a subsidiary of state rail company EFE - published bidding rules for an inspection contract for works that are the second stage of a sub-project to improve the Paicaví corridor entailing the widening of the existing roadway to allow the construction of an exclusive bus corridor. Automobiles and other light vehicles will use outer lanes. Offers are due July 20. Construction work on the 2.43km-long corridor's is due to start in August and take 14 months. The work is budgeted at some US$14mn. Bidding rules for the works contract were published in May, with technical and economic offers due July 14, the same day technical offers will be opened, while economic offers are scheduled to be opened July 21. The contract is slated to be awarded August 8. The housing ministry's housing and urbanization service Serviu is carrying out the first stage, which entails widening a stretch of the corridor for traditional traffic use. Also in June, Fesub published bidding rules to build the Nueva Prat Avenue and associated works budgeted at US$4.5mn. Offers are due August 13. The 1.8km, unidirectional avenue will run parallel to the existing avenue and have three lanes, one of which will be exclusively for buses. Biovías aims to improve passenger transport in greater Concepción by integrating public transport modes - in particular bus transport - and promoting bicycle use through the construction of cycling paths.
