UCOM-MHE-04-07-2022.- After the bilateral meeting held by the presidents of Bolivia, Luis Arce, and Argentina, Alberto Fernández, both leaders signed a Joint Declaration that, among other points, guarantees the sale of gas and makes technical cooperation on lithium feasible. "Argentina's gas supply is guaranteed, but we are also moving forward, going beyond gas, and we are beginning to coordinate the lithium agenda," said the Bolivian Head of State, during a joint press conference with his Argentine counterpart at Casa Rosada, Buenos Aires.

For his part, Fernández said: “I want to publicly thank President Luis Arce for the effort he has made so that Argentina can continue on the path of development, because energy is very important. (…) The current contract remains in the same conditions, but Bolivia assumes the additional commitment that, if there is an increase in gas production, Argentina will have priority”.

Both leaders highlighted and reaffirmed the deep historical ties of brotherhood, solidarity, complementarity and cooperation that unite the peoples and governments of both countries, highlighting the friendship and good neighborliness that mark the coincidences of their bilateral, multilateral and regional relationship.

In this sense, the presidents expressed the will to advance in the consolidation of the bilateral energy agenda that allows guaranteeing the supply of gas from Bolivia to Argentina for this 2022.

Likewise, the Declaration opens the possibility for the Bolivian Fiscal Petroleum Deposits (YPFB) to make investments in Vaca Muerta and for both countries to work together to identify liquid hydrocarbon supply alternatives in pursuit of the energy security of both. state.

On the other hand, both Arce and Fernández reaffirmed the importance of concretizing cooperation projects for the development of the value chain around lithium. For this reason, they agreed to promote the exchange of scientific and technological knowledge, the training of human resources and the promotion of technologies for the sustainable extraction of this evaporite resource.

For this commitment, they agreed to hold a technical meeting in Argentina between Bolivian Lithium Deposits (YLB) and YPF Technologies (Y-TEC) in May 2022.

Prior to this Declaration of the Heads of State and within the framework of the lithium agenda, the Ministers of Hydrocarbons and Energy of Bolivia, Franklin Molina Ortiz, and of Science, Technology and Innovation of Argentina, Daniel Filmus, signed the Memorandum of Understanding on Technical Cooperation in Evaporite Resources and Lithium.

Finally, the dignitaries instructed their foreign ministries to promote a meeting between the competent organizations of both countries to discuss all issues related to energy cooperation.
