Bolivia projects advance as new demand record set
Over a dozen firms have expressed interest in the transmission component of Bolivia's 124MW San José hydroelectric project in Cochabamba department.
BNamericas has learned that potential bidders include Berotz, Cointec, Corsán-Corviam Construcción, Elecnor, HydroChina ZhongNan, Ingener, Ingelec, Isolux Corsán, Isotron, Nari Group, Powerchina Zhongnan Engineering, SDV Energía e Infraestructura, Siemens, Sinohydro and TSK Eléctronica y Electricidad.
Last month, state power company Ende issued a second call for bids for the works which include substations associated with machine houses 1 and 2, a 7km link between the substations, and a link from machine house 1 to state transmission company TDE's Miguelito substation.
The deadline for submitting bids for the 650-day turnkey contract was extended to November 16.
Meanwhile, Ende, the hydrocarbons and energy ministry and the country's central bank signed (pictured) a US$463mn financing deal to convert the Entre Ríos thermoelectric complex (pictured below) to combined cycle which will take the plant's capacity to 480MW from 100MW.
The updates come as peak load hit a record due to above-average temperatures, in particular in the northern and eastern tropical regions of the country.
Information from national dispatch committee CNDC reveals that peak load hit a record 1,351MW on October 20.
Earlier this week, Bolivia inked a deal with Argentina to sell power.
