Bolsonaro looks to technology to speed up permitting

Brazil's president-elect Jair Bolsonaro is looking to speed up environmental licensing.

Ricardo Salles, incoming environment minister, plans to invest more in technology for environmental agency Ibama to accelerate the process.

"If it's a low-complexity project, it should to take a month or two. Currently licensing takes more than a year," said Salles was quoted as saying by Valor newspaper.

The time taken to obtain environmental licenses is one of the main complaints of investors and businesses involved in infrastructure projects in Brazil.

Bolsonaro, who takes office January 1, has also said his administration will work to reduce bureaucracy in general.
