Brazil's FenSeg wants changes to low-income car insurance

The Brazilian federation of general insurance companies (FenSeg) has proposed three changes to a resolution regulating affordable car insurance for the low-income segment.
Resolution 336/16 was published earlier this month by insurance regulator Susep.
The first of the proposed changes has to do with freedom of choice for car repairs. "I have experience with freedom of choice in health networks and can assure you it can cause a lot of confusion, including for the client," said Márcio Coriolano, president of local insurance confederation CNSeg.
FenSeg's second proposal is related to the restriction of the use of non-original spare parts in car repairs. "In Brazil, we have enough supervised companies to satisfy the market," Coriolano said.
The third change the insurers want to see to resolution 336/16 is the possibility of buying low-income car insurance for any vehicle, even those with less than five years of use. "This point needs a review," according to Coriolano.
