Brazil's Suape port awaiting approval to lease LNG terminal

Brazil’s Suape port is expecting an authorization from ports and waterway watchdog Antaq to formalize a lease contract with Oncorp (Aruanã Energia), a source close to the subject told BNamericas.
The company’s proposal was the only one qualified by Suape’s administration for the installation of a liquefied natural gas (LNG) regasification terminal at the multipurpose pier (CMU) during a public process earlier this month.
The value of the bid presented by Oncorp was 6.3mn reais (US$1.22mn) for a lease period of 48 months.
The project will provide natural gas for the Termopernambuco thermal plant, which sold energy at a backup power tender auction held by sector regulator Aneel in 2021, and to Pernambuco state’s gas distribution firm Copergás.
Anglo-Dutch company Shell will supply the LNG for the undertaking.
CH4 Energia, Compass Gás e Energia and Ultracargo Logística filed appeals against the result of the lease process, but the requests were denied by Suape’s tender commission.
This was the second tender launched for the leasing of CMU. The original process was canceled in 2021 because the Suape port administration reportedly did not consult federal authorities, such as the infrastructure ministry and oil and gas regulator ANP before publishing the tender notice.
