Brazil's wind power generation forecast to grow 1GW

Wind power generation in Brazil will grow around 1GW just this year. Next year generation will grow 991,400MW and 134,100MW in 2020, according to the energy ministry.

In just the first four months of 2018, the country had 389,400MW in wind power projects becoming operational. Thus, Brazil's wind power generation reached 12,776MW in non-distributed energy in April 2018. The volume represents a growth of 22.9% compared with the same month last year, corresponding to 8% of the country's installed capacity.

Spain's Iberdrola is one company that bets on the country's wind potential. Iberdrola chose Brazil as site of its largest wind power project so far in Latin America, the 565MW Paraíba complex.

On Tuesday, the company announced an agreement with Siemens Gamesa for the supply of 471MW wind generators for the project.

Iberdrola's Brazilian subsidiary Neoenergia is in charge of the investment. The complex will have 18 wind parks of which three are already operational, with 94.5MW, and 15 are in the development phase. Supply is due to start in 2023. Neoenergia has 1GW in wind parks already operational or under construction in Brazil.
