Honduras' government swore in the nominating selection committee for power regulatory commission CREE, as called for in the sector framework law.

CREE includes three members that the president will select from six candidates proposed by the committee. The members serve for seven years.

Also from Honduras, Jesús Mejía, general manager of state power company Enee, said that the government aims to renegotiate renewable energy contracts as these are more expensive than those for thermos, local news outlet Proceso Digital quoted him as saying.

The environment and climate change committee of El Salvador's legislative assembly will review articles approved in draft bills to establish framework water laws by the 2012-15 and 2015-18 legislatures.

And Costa Rica's state power company ICE reported that its program to protect transmission lines from lightning has reduced annual trips in some sectors to one from eight.

"The Trapiche-Leesville transmission line went from 7.48 annual trips for each 100km to 1.56," ICE transmission grid expansion official Christian Valerio said in a statement.

The company highlighted that the international power service quality standard for high and medium voltage clients is capped at three annual trips for every 100km of 138kV lines and two trips for 230kV lines.
