Ceran to start Castro Alves construction Feb.

Brazil's Ceran consortium will start construction of the 100MW Castro Alves hydroelectric project in February, Rio Grande do Sul state government said in a statement Wednesday. Ceran, made up of distributors CPFL and CEEE with respective 65% and 30% stakes, and engineering company Desenvix (5%), will sign construction permits with state governor German Rigotto on Thursday. Castro Alves is the second plant in the 360MW Rio das Antas complex. Construction of the 130MW Monte Claro project started in April 2002 and work on the 130MW 14 de Julho project is scheduled to start March. The complex is on the das Antas river in the northeast of the state.
