Colombia awards second contract for Quibdó-Medellín roadworks
Colombia's highway authority INVIAS awarded the second of two contracts for road improvement works between Quibdó (Chocó department) and Medellín (Antioquía department) to consortium Vías Para el Chocó. The consortium presented an 118bn peso (US$40mn) bid for the project.
This contract entails the improvement of a stretch of 21km that runs between the sectors known as El 12 and the El 7, INVIAS said.
Some of the works include paving sections of the road and overall maintenance of the stretch.
Also, during the pre-construction phase, the concessionaire will have to conduct studies on accident-prone stretches to determine locations for widening works and potential safety measures.
The winning consortium is composed of Infraestructura Belmira (25%), Intec de la Costa (20%), ICM Ingenieros (50%) and Corvez Ingeniería y Servicios de Colombia (5%).
Bogotá-based construction firm Latinco won the first contract to improve the road for 203bn pesos. This contract entails the upgrade of a 32km section between El 18 and El 12.
Improvement of the Quibdó-Medellín road is part of government program valued at 440bn pesos.
