Colombia secures IDB financing for energy efficiency investments

Colombia has secured US$34.5mn in financing for energy sustainability and efficiency projects in the country's north, the mines and energy ministry stated.

The funds form part of a loan agreement with the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) and will be allocated to initiatives in Atlántico, Bolívar, Sucre, Córdoba, La Guajira, Magdalena and César departments.

"[The financing deal] seeks to promote ... activities such as the replacement of inefficient light bulbs and refrigerators, among other items," the ministry said in a statement.

It added: "The aim is to contribute to the economic reactivation of the electrical appliance sales sector in the Caribbean region and improve the quality of life for the most vulnerable members of the local population."
