CRA permits rates increase

Colombia's water regulator (CRA) is to allow the country's water and sewerage companies to effect a rates increase from January 15, according to news release from the organization. According to regulations, when inflation exceeds 3%, water companies can request a rates increase. Inflation for December 2003 was 3.02% according to government data and represents the maximum amount by which companies can increase their rates. The last increase was in April 2003. CRA said that companies are obliged to inform the public services superintendent and the public of their decision to increase rates.
