El Salvador thermoelectric output dips 48%

Thermoelectric plants injected 182GWh into El Salvador's grid in December, down 24.4% year on year, according to BNamericas research.

Data from power market administrator Unidad de Transacciones reveals that hydro deliveries in the period rose 25.6% to 127GWh.

Geothermal's share slid 3% to 124GWh and imports grew 248% to 66.9GWh.

In December, CEL and LaGeo were the sole hydro and geothermal generators, respectively, and Duke Energy (NYSE: DUK) the principal thermo operator with 55.9GWh.

Maximum capacity demand and consumption in December 2013 totaled 937MW and 489GWh compared to 942MW and 483GWh year on year.

December 2013 service interruptions totaled 120 versus 155 year on year and transmission losses grew 39.4% to 9.2GWh.
