Argentina's Entre Ríos province inked contracts totaling 150mn pesos (US$17.7mn) with local energy provider Proyección Electroluz to carry out a rural area and farm electrification project.

The 18-month project will bring electric supply to a roughly 100,000ha area, benefitting rice-growing sectors in El Redomón and Paso Miraflores, a provincial government release said.

Households in the area will also be able to access the service, according to the release.

Argentine state energy company Enersa, which is developing the 500kV Gran Paraná substation in Entre Ríos, also signed a 205mn-peso deal with the province to install 132kV transmission lines and expand stations to further connect cities in the province.

Financing is being made available through the World Bank's International Bank for Reconstruction and Development.
