The international calls for bids will be for generation and transmission infrastructure, reported state power company ICE, which has already begun drilling wells.

Las Pailas II is penciled in to come online in 2019 and Borinquen I the following year.

IDB has also expressed interest in financing the projects, according to ICE finance management's project coordinator Sergio Mata.

The planned geothermal additions are part of the company's power expansion plan.
