Duke Energy reported on Thursday an 80% year-on-year rise in second quarter profit to US$609mn, boosted by a business overhaul in Chile.
Net revenue for the period climbed 1% to US$5.95bn while adjusted earnings from its international subsidiaries rose to US$146mn from US$87mn.
Duke said its Q2 performance had benefited from an operations revamp in Chile which led to a lower tax burden in the South American country.
The US power company operates in 13 Latin American countries, including Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Ecuador, Mexico and Peru.
