Located in the city of Anápolis, the facility will boast an automated assembly line for photovoltaic modules. It is due to begin operating in January.

The plant is expected to initially manufacture some 2MW of installed capacity a month, with the figure forecast to rise to 7-8MW/m by 2016.

The announcement comes amid renewed optimism in Brazil's solar sector.

Photovoltaic plants will feature in an exclusive category for the first time at a local energy auction, during the October 31 reserve bid round.

According to federal energy planning company EPE, solar projects totaling 10GW will be offered at the auction.
