Environmental nod for dispatch infra of 670MW Panama project

Panamanian company Generadora de Gatún has secured environmental approval for the power transmission line of its 670MW natural gas-fired project.
The developer submitted the environmental impact study (EIS) to the environment ministry in December for the 16.3km, 230kV Telfers-Sabanitas link in Colón province.
The line will cost an estimated US$32mn and is due to take 15 months to complete.
The ministry also greenlighted the EIS filed by state power transmission company Etesa in February for the 230kV Sabanitas substation in Colón as part of the 46km, 230kV Sabanitas-Panamá III line project.
The gas insulated switchgear substation will cost an estimated US$13.4mn and take 24 months to build.
Generadora and Etesa now have two years to begin work on the dispatch infrastructure.
The Telfers substation is part of the generation plant, construction of which started in March.
InterEnergy Group controls 51% of Generadora de Gatún, the Panamanian state 25% and AES 24%.
