PRESS RELEASE from H2 Chile
January 13, 2023
This Thursday, January 12, the Chilean Hydrogen Association invited the executive director of the Environmental Assessment Service (SEA), Valentina Durán, to a meeting where the representatives of the association presented to the authority the main challenges of the green hydrogen industry, especially those related to the processing of projects in environmental institutions, in a year that has been described as key for the entry of initiatives on a commercial scale in different poles of development throughout the country.
The association, which brings together professionals and companies from the renewable hydrogen value chain, proposed to the authority to establish permanent collaboration and complementation work with the SEA in order to share local and global knowledge and information relevant to the development of this industry in Chile.
The director of the SEA, Valentina Durán, pointed out that “we value this type of meeting where we can exchange key information for the environmental processing of projects, especially green hydrogen, which present enormous challenges. As we have reiterated on other occasions, the call is for investors, whether public or private, to present robust initiatives, with good baselines and adequate citizen participation."
For his part, Marcos Kulka, executive director of H2 Chile, explained that "we proposed to the director of the SEA a long-term work plan for collaboration that contemplates a permanent exchange of information between the teams in order to advance with the times planned, both by the government and the private world, in their respective strategic roadmaps to decarbonize the national economy. Kulka added that the union is very interested in being able to respond early and in advance throughout the environmental evaluation process, and for that, a fluid coordination of information and knowledge exchange augurs that the projects materialize complying with the broadest environmental standards. established by the regulator.
Also participating in the meeting on behalf of the SEA were the heads of the legal and environmental divisions and citizen participation, Genoveva Razeto and Juan Cristóbal Moscoso, and the directors of H2 Chile Asunción Borrás, Grace Keller, Alexandra Belaúnde and Mario Gómez.
