Govt to collaborate with US environmental program

Colombia will actively collaborate with the environmental programs proposed for the region by US President Barack Obama, the environment ministry reported in a release. The announcement was made by environment minister Carlos Costa Posada, following a meeting with US ambassador to Colombia William Brownfield. "President Obama announced his interest in establishing a regional cooperation program to handle energy and climate change issues," Costa Posada said, adding: "The program is being elaborated by the US and they want us to put forward recommendations and ideas." The minister said he had asked for special treatment as Colombia is one of the cleanest countries in terms of greenhouse gas emissions in the region. The US has shown a lot of interest and support for Colombia's environmental issues, Costa Posada said.
